The Epic Noir Notebook uses laser cut holes to produce a photographic image of The Statue of Liberty. When light is shined on the holes or halftone patterns it can produce a Gestalt effect. The Gestalt effect is the form-generating capability of our senses, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of figures and whole forms instead of just a collection of simple lines and curves. Where there is no light or shape or visual reference, the mind fills in the gaps.
This is a great example of how natural light works with our Epic Noir Notebook covers(pictured right). In this case the sun is the source traveling in a straight line. Whether the source is from the sun, light bulbs, candles… light is reflected off or through objects and into our eyes.
