Besides having one of the prettiest plumages in the natural world, Peacocks also represent many other things besides beauty to different cultures. In the Hindu culture the Peacock is associated with benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and knowledge. In Greece mythology the eyes on the Peacock’s tail are said to symbolize the vault of heaven and the “eyes” of the stars. In ancient Babylonia the Peacock was seen as a guardian to royalty and in Christianity the Peacock is a symbol of eternal life.

Papel Couture is Inspired by Nature

Like skyscrapers create the urban landscape, treetops are the sculptors of the natural one. The main difference is that while skyscrapers are man made and forced to erect, forests create their own agenda, where only the best survive to make it among the grandiose treetops- and then, as the large trees falter they are renewed by those beneath them.

Trees are assigned many properties, but those of patience, permanence and the aforementioned renewal are the ones popular culture has latched onto when using the image as a representation. It is also these three qualities that make forests and treetops a great theme for weddings, representing the qualities of love between the couple. Patience is shown through the years that the tree waits to develop, permanence due to their long life cycles compared to humans and renewal for the leaves that they drop each fall and the force that they bounce back with each spring.

With these key elements in mind many have begun to shun traditional sites and themes for their weddings and events in favor of the more natural landscape of the forest. Papel Couture Tests the Limits of a Heart

From the beginning we learn that a heart is not only the organ in our chests but the center of our capacity for love. Our heart is where we assign our feelings of joy as well as those of heartbreak.  However, we also learn at the beginning that our heart is not something that we can easily show and give to those that create these feelings within us. If it was, it seems life would be a lot easier! By being positioned inside, a heart imposes limits on how you are able to share its contents, and so throughout our lives we are on a search to find a way in which to display our feelings.  Most beautiful things that have been created can be described as someone exposing his or her heart to the world, an artifact that transcends the imaginary and brings the feelings to actualization.

The most commonly used representation of love and affection in the modern world has become the shape of a heart.  Posted on everything imaginable we use this shape daily to overcome the limits of the actual heart. As children we turned to the most used medium in the world, paper, to express our feelings with this shape. Whether a holiday or a first crush we spent hours cutting paper hearts and embellishing them with glitter or messages for the receiver (and probably making a huge mess!).  Whether or not we understood the significance, we knew that by giving someone a paper heart they knew we cared.

As these paper heart creators grew-up they began to experiment to find new and more beautiful ways to create paper heart shaped items. The Persian Tradition inspires Papel Couture

Persian Wheels were vital to the success of the culture.

It is very often the things that we overlook that have the most effect on us. One example of this could be the Persian Wheel. This form of water wheel was widely used in Persia (modern day Iran) as a tool to effectively gather water from deep wells in large amounts. Small in size it is easy to see why a tool like this may not be appreciated to a full extent. However, once analyzed, you begin to see the beauty behind this water wheel as it was a part of everyday culture for those using it.  From providing drinking water to the villagers and animals to helping water and irrigate plants, this wheel was the hub of the most essential element of life for the Persians. It represents a culture who when faced with the challenge of keeping alive overcame obstacles by developing this tool to better spread health and life throughout its people. It represents the center of being for this magnificent ancient culture.
